It’s flu season. Lowkey, it’s kind of flu season year-round at this point, so that’s fun.

However… It’s WAY worse in the fall and winter months, especially if you have kids HAHAHA. Good times. And if you are a reflections queen then you know it’s time to stay on top of your shit now more than ever. But that’s not the point rn. Let’s just hook it up with support options that slap so hard. Because here’s the deal, when we’re sick af doing reflections work is not always the most desirable, and sometimes we are at a point where the physical action step is fully required since it’s already come to fruition…

*You can find links to immune system-supportive supplements in the “Supplements + Support” section.

MUST-haves for overall support

  • Nebulizer (no, but SERIOUSLY)
  • Briotech SOS (advertised as mouthwash). But it is simply a different dilution of pure HOCl, one that requires no further dilution in the nebulizer.
  • Homeopathy
  • Honey & lemon
  • Elderberry syrup (for those without histamine issues)
  • Briotech topical spray

Nebulizing changes the game. Useful for prevention, early onset, and when symptoms are at their peak. Nebulizing increases airflow in and out of the lungs. The relaxation effects it produces on our breathing muscles allow for deeper penetration of supportive and healing products into the tissues. This stimulates a healing response instantaneously as well as offers immense relief.

Nebulizer bangers:

  • The ones that plug into the wall are so much more durable, and they have a longer life span (I have yet to need to replace the one I bought years ago).
  • Saline is so clutch all the time. Great for all coughs and preventing sickness.
  • Briotech SOS is the GOAT. It is soothing, safe for kiddos, and absolutely legendary when it comes to both soothing your sinuses, lungs, and respiratory track during sickness/allergies, but it’s so clutch to prevent infections as well.
  • Magnesium Chloride (use the oil form for nebulizing): Here’s the deal: this is totally not gentle, in fact, it might make you want to cry a little bit if your inflammation is substantial, but that is because she is doing her job. Trust. Bc when I had the vid and suddenly could not breathe at all… One round of this took care of me and allowed me to get oxygen in my lungs again. It. Works. So. Well. (ps: can totally be great to support anxious tendencies and a stressed out mind). Think of her when you have any intense coughs (croup, RSV, restrictive af). Fill with 1/4 tsp and the rest with either DISTILLED water or saline. Here is the brand I recommend.
  • Meth blue is actually more than just an internal supplement! AND if you are super sensitive to taking it internally, nebulizing is a great option to get all the benefits with a more gentle deliver (aka: avoid a mega healing reaction lol). Delicious choice for allergies, preventing getting sick, and when you are already in the thick of it with illness or allergies (NOT a great option for kids). 1 or 2 drops (fill the rest with water or saline).

Homeopathy. If you know me you know I am a whoo-were for homeopathy.

Systemically, experientially, and in all ways possible, homeopathy is going to be your biggest ally when you are unwell, if you choose the right remedy. Symptom presentation is the key to using the most effective remedy. However, the combination remedies are an excellent place to start, especially if you are brand new or not able to get remedies on short notice. I personally do not find them as effective, but they are equally as effective as your standard OTC situations, and they have zero of the shitty side effects. Check out Jennie’s CCH Instagram @the.enlightened.homeopath and Kathy (@kathy.yeo.homeopathy) for their amazing flow charts (the best resources ever) Influenza, sore throat, ear pain, conjunctivitis (pink eye), RSV, and cough. As well as dosing insight includes dosing for babies.

My favorite combinations to have on hand include

  • Boiron Cold Calm. Made for infants in predosed packaging, and a separate product for older kids + adults
  • Boiron Chestal. The best cough syrup. Also can be purchased in pellet form. This product knocks coughs out quickly!
  • Oscillococcinum. This is another top hitter for flu symptoms, especially relating to fevers & body aches.

*mostly, though I recommend having a little homeopathy kit and reaching out to my girl (the homeopath we use), Misty, for acute support during illness. She is a dragon slayer of symptoms, has come to my rescue countless times. The link to reach out to her is here.

Fevers & Body Aches

  • Wild Wholistic’s The Healing Body
  • Topical magnesium (bath with Epsom salts, or topical cream/spray) favorite brand here
  • Fermented Garlic Honey
  • Replenish with electrolytes (see this section for our favorites)

Coughs & congestion

  • Herbs: Pine, thyme, rosemary, peppermint, and Traditional Medicinal Breathe Easy Tea, Birthsong Botanicals Respiratory & Lung Support Tea,
  • Fermented Garlic Honey
  • Raw honey with the juice of lemon
  • Elderberry Syrup
  • Bee Keeper’s Naturals Cough Syrup
  • Earthley’s Cough Be Gone
  • Earthley’s Lymph Cream to support drainage and lymph movement
  • Traditional Medicinal Throat Coat Cough Drops

Sore Throats

  • Herbs: Chamomile, fenugreek, garlic, licorice root, and Traditional Medicinal Throat Coat Tea (do NOT sleep on this tea).
  • Briotech topical spray (sprayed repeatedly at the onset of symptoms)
  • Fermented garlic honey
  • Raw honey with the juice of lemon
  • Elderberry syrup (if you are an intuition queen/king, please intuit whether or not elderberry is resonant for you, it is not for everyone)
  • Bee Keeper’s Propolis Throat Spray (oml this stuff is EVERYTHING. Feels good, tastes, good and I use it all dang day when I feel the sore throat coming for me).

Get lottssss of rest. Give your body lots of grace. If you get a fever it’s actually doing A LOT of good for you, it burns off all the shit that needs to go and you can get better faster if you let it do it’s thang.

There are all sorts of ways to offer support and relief that don’t include a bunch of side effects (that linger long past the cold). If you find yourselves in a never-ending spiral of illness, get into reflections workkkkk! & consider constitutional homeopathic care. We also go into reoccurring illness in our symptoms + support section. But while you are here, often times if you are staying sick your body is needing lots of foundational support to replenish what is depleted. Sunshine (circadian support), good food, minerals, having fun, reducing stress, and staying warm are easy ways to offer that support.
